Sight Words Word Search

Ten words, across and down only, so young readers aren't hunting backwards.

Word search: after, again, an, any, as, ask, by, could, every, fly, from, give, going, had, has, her

Why a word search helps

To find a word, a child has to hold its letters in order and scan for them. That's useful practice for looking closely. It's slower than reading, so use it as a treat or an early-finisher task, not as the main way to learn. Have your child read each word aloud as they find it.

Questions

What age is this for?

About 5 and up. Younger children usually do better with flash cards and bingo.

Do words go diagonally or backwards?

No. Only across and down, to keep it fair for early readers.

Is it really free?

Yes. Print as many as you like for home or class. Each sheet carries our web address at the bottom, and that's the only catch.

An app is on the way

We're building a Wordburrow app for iPhone. The plan is everything you can play here, plus offline play and a parent view of the words that have stuck. It isn't out yet. The whole game is free here in the meantime.
